About This Spot

Stepping into Sugarbowl Café and Gifts Shop feels like entering a comforting nook in the heart of Kingussie, where time moves at a gentle pace and every detail invites a moment of pause. The warm, inviting hum of friendly chatter mingles softly with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, setting a tone that’s both lively and relaxed without ever feeling rushed.

This is a place where the simple pleasures of a good cup of coffee and thoughtfully prepared breakfast blend seamlessly with the charm of a gift shop that hints at local stories and quieter discoveries. Whether you’re settling in with a smooth flat white or sharing a toasted panini bursting with fresh ingredients, there’s a quietly satisfying rhythm to the experience. The space has an approachable warmth — a subtle modern touch woven with cozy corners — making it just as welcoming for an early morning local as for a visitor wandering through the town.

The staff here add a genuine layer of care to each visit, attentive without ever overwhelming, lending the sense that your presence is pleasantly expected rather than merely accommodated. Alongside the delight of hearty meals and easygoing drinks, the adjoining gift shop offers an unexpected pause — shelves with local crafts and small treasures that hold a whisper of the surrounding landscape and community life, encouraging a little discovery long after the last bite.

For those who appreciate variety and a little thoughtful accommodation, Sugarbowl quietly stands out. Gluten-free options and vegetarian choices are woven naturally into the menu, reflecting a careful attention to guests’ varied needs. Portions arrive generous, and the space holds both the promise of a casual stop and the charm of a place you’ll want to return to — the kind of spot where the atmosphere is as comforting as the food.

We visited the Sugarbowl Café twice during our four-day stay in Kingussie, and both visits left us thoroughly impressed. The coffee was excellent every time, and the service was consistently friendly and welcoming. On our first visit, we dined in and shared a grilled veggie panini along with a selection of pastries, all paired with beautifully made flat whites. We were especially delighted to discover that the upstairs dining room is dog-friendly — which a rare and much-appreciated touch — and our wee pup was happy to be included. All diet types can be accomodated here. Our second visit was for takeaway before we caught our train to Inverness, and we were even more impressed that despite a sheet of ice left from the night before, the café still opened on time and delivered the same high-quality coffee and warm service as the last visit. That kind of dedication and consistency really stood out. Sugarbowl Café is a true gem for Kingussie, and we’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting or living in the area. We’d happily return again!

Had a stop off in Kingussie today on the way to Nairn and found this wee gem of a place. The staff were so friendly and helpful and offered so many gluten free options which for me as a coeliac was just amazing! I had the soup and baked potato with tuna, cheese and pesto which were both delicious and finished off with a large cup of tea. Great prices and atmosphere. Having a wee browse in the gift shop was a bonus too

We called in here on the way back from Inverness. We was looking for somewhere to eat and noticed the road signs had places to eat. As we drove along the high noticed this one stood out. Parking was easy and walked in. Very warm and inviting, with the staff straightaway saying take a seat, with menus on tables and order at the main desk. A very extensive menu and we wasn’t disappointed when it arrived. This cafe has a lovely array of gift wear on display. We would definitely call back here on our travels later on in the year

It’s a lovely little cosy place that offers hearty meals. They have a vast menu to choose from offering breakfast and main course options. Staff is very helpful and friendly. There’s a lovely gift and souvenirs section at the restaurant as well.

A café with a modern vibe, nicely decorated and combining a varied menu with vegetarian options with a gifts shop with local souvenirs and produce. The food is nice, plenty of cakes to choose from and more than generous portions. Service was correct.

We stopped here for a bite while travelling on the basis of good reviews and being dog friendly. We were not disappointed.....we had bagels which were delicious! The various bakes looked lovely, although we didnt have room (or time) to sample. Great service! Recommend a visit

Wonderful wee highland breakfast. Bacon was superb and fried eggs cooked perfectly. Staff very friendly and attentive. A must visit for breakfast or cake!

Much needed stop on the drive from Inverness to Scone... rest places are few and far between on the A9 so this slight detour was perfect. I had a toasted sandwich and a coffee which was hot, fresh and tasty. The staff were really friendly and out meals were prepared very quickly. Easy on street parking if it's early in the day. Close to a co-op for provisions if you're on a road trip. :)
